Ni Yan, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Ni Yan grew up in the southern area in Shaanxi, China. She received a bachelor degree in Bioengineering from Northwest A&F University in 2017, and earned her PhD degree from Shanghai Institute of Hematology at Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2022. Her previous studies uncovered the underlying epigenetic mechanism of arsenic-induced cognitive impairment in offspring of exposed mice. She also investigated molecular targeted therapies for TP53-mutant cancers. Outside of the lab, she enjoys music, hiking, cycling, scuba-diving and traveling.
-

Subha Saha, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Subha was born and raised in India where he completed his Masters in Biochemistry from the University of Calcutta, India. Thereafter, he joined Institute of Life Sciences, to pursue a career in research and completed his Ph.D. in November 2022. His past research work focused on the role of chromatin remodelling complexes in guiding differentiation programs and lineage choices in hematopoiesis, and how these epigenetic switches can contribute to leukemogenesis. Apart from research, he enjoys cooking and bonding over food, reading novels and Indian epics!
-

Yigang Tang, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Yigang, originally from China, obtained his Bachelor's degree from Jilin University. He earned his PhD in Basic Medicine from Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, where his research focused on targeting mutant p53 with small molecules. His current research is dedicated to understanding the role of PPM1D in chemotherapy.
-

Geunhyo Jang, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Geunhyo was born and grew up in Korea where she completed her Masters in Immunology at Konkuk University in Seoul. She moved to the United States for her PhD at New York University. Her past research focused on the function of endogenous hematopoietic stem cells during aging and leukemogenesis. In the Miller lab, she works on understanding how somatic mutations arise in hematopoietic stem cells and how these mutations contribute to cellular fitness, transformation to leukemia, and survival of leukemia cells. Outside of work, she enjoys walking, painting, and exploring cafes.
-

Ashwini Patil, PhD, MSc
Postdoctoral Fellow
Ashwini grew up in India, where she earned her master's degree in biotechnology from Bangalore University. She moved to Germany for her Ph.D. in Hematology at the University Hospital Essen, where she studied the cross talk between T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and thymic epithelial cells through the CXCL10/CXCR3 axis. Her work uncovered how changes in the thymic microenvironment contribute to leukemogenesis and revealed novel pathways regulating T-cell signaling. At Massachusetts General Hospital, Ashwini’s research focuses on myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and splicing factor mutations. She is investigating innovative combination therapies with the goal of advancing precision cancer treatments.
-

Tharshika Thavayogarajah, MD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Tharshika, a German physician with Sri Lankan roots, earned her MD from RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on CXCR4 and CD74 signaling in CLL conducted in collaboration with LMU Munich and the Weizmann Institute. She completed residency training in Hematology and Internal Medicine at the University Hospital Zurich, where she became Chief Medical Resident and later an attending. Her prior research, supported by the Kurt and Senta Herrmann Foundation explored pharmacological modeling and leukemia biology. Her work here, supported by the Swiss Cancer League Fellowship and the Aiming Higher Scholarship for Women in Medicine, investigates how genomic instability and DNA damage responses drive clonal selection and myeloid malignancies. Trained across Europe, Asia, and the U.S., she brings a global perspective to translational hematology. Outside of medicine, she enjoys classical concerts, opera, and learning skiing and golf.

Carmen Da Silva
Senior Research Technologist
Carmen Da Silva grew up in a small town in El Salvador and moved to the United States in 2006. She enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College and graduated with an associate degree in Biotechnology and subsequently obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory and Clinical Sciences at Boston University Metropolitan College. Carmen worked for 14 years at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute providing in vivo technical support to researchers in the community where she also obtained AALAS certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist. Carmen enjoys gardening, walking, and Zumba!
-

Hatem Ellaithy, MD
Fellow
Hatem, originally from Cairo, grew up moving around the middle east spending much of his childhood in Dubai, UAE. He moved to the United States for his college at New York University where he studied chemistry and nutrition. He lived and worked in New York City for a short while before attending medical school at the Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, before joining the Miller Lab supported by the NIAID-R38 grant. While in the Miller Lab he plans on investigating the effects of replication stress on DNA-damage and how that relates to leukemic risk. In his free time, Hatem enjoys running, reading, cooking and eating.

Deumaya (Sita) Shrestha
Research Technician
Sita was born and raised in Nawalparasi, Nepal, where she completed her secondary education. She later moved to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, where she earned a diploma in pharmacy and served as a pharmacy assistant in a community pharmacy for two years. In 2018, Sita moved to South Korea to pursue her undergraduate studies. She completed her undergraduate in Bioscience from Mokpo National University in 2024. Her undregraduate research focussed on obesity and diabetes, specifically investigating the effect of Elsholtzia fruticosa extract on the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes cells. Currently, her research interests in the Miller Lab center around investigating the intricate molecular mechanisms underlying progression and drug resistance in myeloid neoplasms. In her leisure time, Sita enjoys watching movies and spending time with friends, embracing diverse experiences and perspectives.
-

Ruxin Yang
Research Technician
Ruxin was born and raised in Guangzhou, China. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Hunan University before pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. Her previous research focused on how scaffold stiffness and mechanical loading coordinate to regulate gene expression during chondrocyte redifferentiation. Now in the Miller lab, she is expanding her research interests in hematology, uncovering the mechanisms behind drug resistance and identifying potential therapeutic targets for leukemia. Outside of the lab, she enjoys working out, reading, experimenting with new recipes, and watching horror movies.
